Saskatchewan Appaloosa Horse Club

January 2012

The Saskatchewan Appaloosa Horse Club

It seems that we wind up one show season just in time to prepare for the next! Our 2012 dates are posted on our website and it is our hope that all readers take a few minutes out of their busy lives to check us out. Our site is www.saskapp.ca. It is regularly updated so have a look as often as you can. We always post the latest news and of course all of our show information. All our show forms are there and are downloadable for quick entries. All forms and information will also be mailed out to those who have indicated that they wish to have their newsletter by regular mail.

Our club is joining with the SHF for our Annual General Meeting and Awards Night this year. We are looking forward to mingling with other horse enthusiasts and seeing what is done by other breed groups. Times are tough for those in the horse world and it will take cooperation of all to weather the storm so to speak. Our AGM and Awards Night will be held at the Travelodge Hotel on March 10, 2012. If you wish to book a room, please call 306 584 6345 and ask for the SHF block. Rates are $119.95 for single or double occupancy if booked by Feb 9th.
If you check your Show Trail magazine you will see that there are several groups represented at this Conference. We hope that you will join us there for an interesting weekend.

On this note I would like to express our sadness when we learned that Mae Smith is retiring after the Convention. This wonderful lady has been nothing but a real friend to the SAHC. She will be sadly missed but we thank her for her many hours of dedicated service to both the SHF and our own SAHC. Happy Retirement, Mae!

By the time you read this our Appaloosa owners and riders will be thinking about pulling those spotted and solid colored horses in from the winter quarters and shedding them out for the first show of the season. This show will be held in Moose Jaw on May 11 and 12. Once again we will be offering a great variety of Appaloosa classes and open to all breed classes. There will be something for everyone! Our youth program is second to none so if you are interested in starting your youth in the show ring, come to Moose Jaw in May.

The SAHC financial statement will be available to club members by February 23. If you wish to have a copy, please contact Eleanor Porth at 545 2567. Those statements will also be available at the AGM on March 10.

The Saskatchewan Appaloosa welcomes new people to our shows either as an exhibitor or as a spectator. Anyone who enjoys horses will find a friendly atmosphere with the SAHC.

Thank you,

Karen Bedford, President SAHC 868 4526 bedford@sasktel.net

SAHC Directors` Meeting of December 5, 2011

The Directors held an interesting teleconference on Monday evening to wind up some items before the old year gives way to the new. A teleconference saves on many hours of driving and is much cheaper than gasoline!

Our raffle netted us about $2800. This includes money from members` tickets and those sold at Agribition. We did find it very difficult to get workers for our booth at Agribition and must come up with a new plan if we decide to follow the same format next year. The filly went to   Sarah Green from Alberta, who was very pleased wither win. Cash awards went to Dustin Johnston of Regina and to our own Gail Venaas of Moosomin. All prizes were donated and this helped our bottom line a lot! Thanks again to our raffle sponsors.

We agreed to join the SHF Convention in March and we plan to hold our AGM and Awards night at that time. More information will follow at a later date. It is our hope that by joining up with the SHF and other breeds that we will have more people come out for this event. The SHF Conference offers a wide variety of interesting presentations and we hope to see many of you there.

Please fill out your 2012 SAHC membership form as soon as possible. You will notice there is an added late fee. It is much easier for office staff if your membership is paid up well before the first show of the season. That also applies to your ApHCC membership.

Our club sold 20 books of SHF tickets also. This brings in $16 a book to our club. Good luck to all those who bought these Horsin Around tickets. The prizes are excellent!

The SAHC is working on setting up a booth with the ApHCC at the Horse Expo that will be held in Saskatoon in February. We hope this will expose our club to some potential new members. We all need to promote the Appaloosa horse! Remember if you sell an Appaloosa horse to anyone who has not been a club member, you are to let us know as we provide this new person with a free SAHC membership for the year.

The SAHC will be offering awards to the two year old horse division at the June and October shows as well as a year-end trophy sponsored by Tori`s Performance Horses. All owners of two year olds will be pleased to see that they are now to be recognized in 2012. We are planning on offering many open classes at our shows in 2012 so watch for that change too  for next year. This is done to encourage others to come out and see what we have to offer in our club

We, the Directors of your SAHC, wish all of you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy “Appy” New Year!

    Sincerely, Karen Bedford, President SAHC

Just a reminder that you must have a SAHC membership for your points to count towards our Year-End Awards.
